DHE: Misc Reviews/Features

Summer & Fall 1998

As noted elsewhere, I was given the opportunity in late 1998 to reinvent this Home Theater sister title as a product review magazine and turned it into an irreverent and (mostly) tasteful laddie-boy-style book inspired by the British magazine T3 (Tomorrow’s Technology Today). Below are three of my bylined pieces from the two issues we put out before I was lured back to Hachette Filipacchi Magazines to help launch Sound & Vision. The first is a review of some early videophones that relied on old modem technology, with predictably comic results. The second is a short review of a self-cleaning litter box told in first person by my two housecats; notice that the page slug was changed from the regular department name “‘Digerati” to “Litterati.” The last piece is a Q&A-style expository that sought to make layman sense of the very complex subject of HDTV, which was just coming to market for the first time. All three show how we did our best to impart tech in an entertaining and accessible manner.
